The Gun Control Gestapo Gets 9/11 Wrong The latest sophistry is that gun shows—where people come to look at, admire, fantasize about and buy and sell guns and the paraphernalia that go with them—are helpful to terrorism and ought to be subject to government control, if not banned. - Sam Francis, January 7, 2002 [VDare]

The Anti-Gun, Anti-Boy Scout AMA "These guys at the AMA badly need to purchase a ticket on the clue train. In her critique of Bellesiles' work, Malcolm takes on his research methods, conclusions and use of selective information." - May 20, 2001 [WorldNetDaily]

When it Comes to Suicide, Gun Control is not the Answer A lowering suicide rate is undoubtedly a good thing, but to think that gun control laws can magically reduce the rate further is going too far. Suicide is far too serious a subject to be used as a pawn in the struggle over firearms. - Iain Murray, December 14, 1999 [St. Louis Post-Dispatch]

Christians and Guns He gave men the gifts of conscience and intelligence, so that they may decide if an action is good or worthy. So it is very hard to justify, from a Christian point of view, a law whose prime effect is to disarm honest people. - Carlo Stagnaro, August 30, 2002 [LewRockwell.com]

Their Aim Is True "The gun culture is a fundamental part of American culture as a whole. Members of America’s gun culture don’t live in a vacuum. They serve on school boards; they attend town meetings; they go to neighborhood parties and community picnics; they go to their jobs in large and small places of business. They have incorporated guns into their lives, and many of them really aren’t interested in changing that fact. Until critics of guns and the gun culture recognize that fact, they are only going to alienate gun owners and polemicize the gun debate. Neither result will further a goal sought by both sides: to reduce the amount of violence in American society." - Abigail Kohn, May 2001 [REASON]
You have a right to a firearm "You have a constitutional right to own a firearm -- handgun, shotgun, rifle -- if you so choose. And, like all our other rights -- free speech, freedom of religion, the right to avoid self-incrimination -- your right to own a gun cannot be 'infringed,' taken away, banned, limited, or ignored." - Jon E. Dougherty, May 11, 2001 [WorldNetDaily]
America Will Be Safer If You Give Grandma an Uzi Giving fully automatic weapons to old ladies sounds extreme, and I’m not claiming that people too weak to care for themselves should brandish sidearms; neither should drunks or children. But arming decent people, including your Aunt Bea, and arming them with – yes – machine guns if they want, is the way to make America safer for all of us. - Brad Edmonds, April 23, 2001 [LewRockwell.com]

Loaded Guns Can Be Good for Kids If a family with small children lives in a safe neighborhood, then keeping the guns locked up may indeed be the safest choice. But if a family must live in a dangerous neighborhood, and if the parents have taught gun safety to responsible older children, then having the gun ready for immediate protection might be safer. Parents, not members of Congress, are best suited to make these kinds of decisions. - Dave Kopel and Eugene Volokh, June 1, 1999 [CATO]
Fighting Back: Crime, Self-Defense, and the Right to Carry a Handgun Concealed-carry reform reaffirms the basic idea that citizens have the right to defend themselves against criminal attack. Gun Control, Patriotism, and Civil Disobedience The true patriot scrutinizes the actions of his own government with unceasing vigilance. And when his government violates the morality and rightness associated with principles of individual freedom and private property, he immediately rises in opposition to his government. - Jacob G. Hornberger, May 1991 [The Future of Freedom Foundation]
Trust the People: The Case Against Gun Control Gun control is based on the faulty notion that ordinary
American citizens are too clumsy and ill-tempered to be trusted
with weapons. Only through the blatant abrogation of explicit
constitutional rights is gun control even possible. It must be
enforced with such violations of individual rights as intrusive
search and seizure. It most severely victimizes those who most
need weapons for self-defense, such as blacks and women. - David B. Kopel, July 11, 1988 [CATO]
Some socialists claim that the prevention of accidental firearm deaths is a good reason to limit our freedoms. On the Center for Disease Control site, the July 24, 2000 National Vital Statistics Reports shows that only 866 people died in 1998 as a result of accidental firearm injury. Of those, only 121 were ages 14 and under. To be sure, any death is a tragedy. But, out of the 280 million people in the United States, 866 is a very small number. By comparison, unintentional drownings account for 4,406 deaths per year and accidental falls cause 12,595 deaths per year.
