Sodexho USA Donates Nearly Six Tons of Turkeys to D.C.-Area Residents

GAITHERSBURG, Md., Nov. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- 1,000 frozen turkeys arrived in downtown Washington, D.C. at the Project Harvest Annual Food Drive just in time for Thanksgiving. Sodexho USA, the nation's leading provider of food and facilities in the US, donated nearly six tons of turkeys to Washington-D.C. area residents as part of Project Harvest 2003.

Sodexho employees were also at the Project Harvest site to help collect monetary donations and non-perishable food items for the food drive. "Sodexho USA has a very strong, on-going commitment to fighting hunger through a wide range of programs that provide hunger relief to those in need in our communities," said Joan McGlockton, Vice President Corporate Affairs for Sodexho USA. "With so many families in the Washington, D.C. area at risk of hunger, we are doing everything we can to help meet their needs."

"I couldn't believe my ears when we received the call," said Sterling Robinson, executive director of Project Harvest. "The sheer size and type of donation that Sodexho has made shows that they take the fight against hunger seriously. Sodexho's contribution is not only generous in size, but by providing these turkeys, needy families will now have their Thanksgiving Day meals complete."

Sodexho, through the Sodexho Foundation, has been the anchor of many anti- hunger initiatives in the Washington, D.C. community. The Sodexho Foundation is a strong supporter of the D.C. Central Kitchen and the Capitol Area Food Bank.

The Foundation also helps fill a critical need in the community by offering meals to children who receive free and reduced-cost lunches during the school year and might otherwise go hungry during the summer. Last summer, through its "Feeding our Future" program, the Sodexho Foundation provided meals to 12 feeding centers throughout Washington, D.C. providing more than 36,000 free meals to at-risk children. Sodexho continues to make a difference each day as one of the largest donors of surplus perishable and non-perishable food to America's Second Harvest, the nation's largest hunger-relief organization.
